For years and years I’d always thought I was in good shape for a 20yr old guy. I worked out, ate okay and saw progress throughout a few years. Then I met my then, coach, and now good friend Jay Martinez. I went to the 2013 Panhandle Showdown, my first NPC show as a spectator. I saw my best friends cousin, Jay take the stage and I was in awe. I contacted Jay about doing a 12 week transformation for myself.
I spent the next twelve weeks in close contact with Jay, wether it was a diet question or a workout tip I was looking for, he was always there on the spot. After my 12 weeks was up, I was 11 weeks out of the 2014 Panhandle Showdown and Jay asked if I wanted to compete. I was looking the best I had in my entire life. And I’ve always enjoyed showing off so… I took him up on his offer. My diet and training hit a whole new level with jays guidance. We spent hours together, doing posing techniques and working out. He took me in and helped me become the physique competitor I am today. Now thanks to Jay I’ve competed in two NPC events, getting a 2nd place and three 3rd places in these two shows. The 2015 Panhandle Showdown will be my one year mark of competition. And I couldn’t have done it without Jay. This man is a motivator and friend. He leads by example and expects above and beyond you ever thought you were willing to give someone or yourself.
He’s become my brother and mentor, he doesn’t ask you to do something he won’t do himself. And that’s give everything you have for something you love. Improve yourself and push. If you want something you’ve never had, you’ve gotta be willing to do something you’ve never done. Jay showed me that something.
